When it comes to you and your health, my passion is finding the root of the issue and getting you back on course.

What is

ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is an ancient and traditional medicine of China. It is a system of healing, practised over thousands of years and aims to restore physical and emotional wellbeing to each patient at any age. Chinese Medicine practitioners recognise that in good health, there should be a continuous and smooth flow of energy – Qi – around the channels of the body. The approach is holistic and individual, and no two treatments are the same.

Following a bespoke diagnosis, fine, sterile, needles are carefully and gently inserted into the skin making contact with your Qi. The effects of treatment are measured by observation of your pulse and tongue and your personal feedback. Many patients report improved symptoms and an increased sense of wellbeing.

Needles

The needles are used to connect with and fine-tune the Qi travelling along the channels of your body, and are inserted into specific points on each channel to yield different results. Your personal acupuncture points prescription is chosen by me, following a full traditional diagnosis.

Cupping

This is a wonderful treatment, which can provide deep relaxation, or be invigorating depending on its application. Cupping uses vacuum suction to relieve muscle tension and stagnation, this modality can be both diagnostic and therapeutic in its application.

Gua Sha

Gua meaning to scrape and Sha meaning the red marks which rise on your skin. Similarly to cupping, this ancient technique is used to relieve stagnation and promote circulation and alleviate discomfort from tight muscles.

Advice

Modern life is stressful, more so than ever before, and despite our best intentions, our real health allies, such as; sleep, movement, relaxation, good nutrition and effective digestion and assimilation of nutrients are either neglected by us or are simply out of sync. Depending on your circumstances, I will make suggestions for adjustments to your diet and lifestyle. It is entirely up to you if you wish to follow this advice, and my aim is to ensure the benefits of treatment stay with you long-term. Empowering you to take charge of your health and wellbeing is key.

Frequently Asked

QUESTIONS

Treatment – what happens at my appointment?

At our first appointment, I’m going to ask questions, and listen to you carefully, as I want to understand as much as possible about your physical health and emotional wellbeing, including any medication you may be taking. I will select a suitable treatment for you based on your feedback and my diagnosis. Your treatment will be entirely unique and tailored to you and your needs.

What if I’m scared of needles?

Acupuncture needles, although tiny can still be daunting for some. This is not a problem at all and I can still offer the treatment without needles and will be happy to talk this through at your initial appointment.

What do I bring?

Ideally come in loose and comfortable clothing, bringing a pair of shorts and vest top may be helpful but not essential. Please also bring a bottle of water with you. Phones should be switched to silent mode during your appointment.

What do children come for?

Acupuncture is a wonderful treatment option for children in the case of both acute and chronic illness. It is safe, gentle and effective for babies to teenagers and every stage in between. Children (and parents) may be reassured to find out that needles are not always a necessary part of treatment.

What do you treat?

In essence, I treat you! I will assess you individually and treat your symptoms using a diagnostic approach rooted in Chinese Medicine. As an acupuncturist, I don’t treat according to western medical classification. However, if you would like to do some research of your own, the British Acupuncture Council has complied a research digest which can be found here.

You can also find an A-Z list of condidtions here compiled by the British Acupuncture Council.

Evidence-Based Acupuncture is another great community project website that allows you to explore the current knowledge around acupuncture in the language of science.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on your complaint, I would always recommend a minimum of four sessions, preferably weekly, for you to see and feel results. After this, a course of maintenance monthly or quarterly treatments may be advisable to keep you in good health. I will always be honest with you and never encourage you to continue treatment if I genuinely don’t think I can help you.
